Las nécoras, marisco similar al cangrejo
La nécora es un crustáceo decápodo de la familia de los cangrejos, incluso muy parecida a él. Su tamaño promedio va entre los 7 a 12 cm y pesa entre 70 a 300 gramos. Su nombre científico es Necora puber.
Su caparazón es plano, mucho más ancho que largo y de color pardo oscuro con vellosidades que simulan al terciopelo. Como todos los crustáceos, muda de caparazón a lo largo de su vida.
La nécora posee dientes pequeños que se encuentran entre sus ojos, que son de color rojo. Sus patas tienen bandas negras que las diferencian de otros tipos de cangrejos. El primer par de patas son pinzas grandes que identifican a los machos, usadas para alimentarse y protegerse de los depredadores. El quinto para de patas es más corto y ancho.
Otra característica para identificar el macho de la hembra es que el primero tiene un abdomen triangular, mientras que en la hembra es más redondeado y ancho.
La nécora vive entre rocas, piedras y grietas, a no más de 70 metros de profundidad, en las aguas del mar Mediterráneo y el océano Atlántico. Se alimenta de algas y peces muertos. Es de hábitos nocturnos y en ciertos casos practica el canibalismo, es decir, come a su propia especie.
Se reproduce por cópula en invierno y el desove es en primavera. Un hembra puede llegar a tener unos 200.000 huevos.
Tipos de nécoras:
- Nécora Francesa (Liocarcinus corrugatus) o conocidas como nécoras de Bretaña, Irlanda o Inglaterra. Su color es menos pardo, son más lisas y están desprovistas de esas finas vellosidades típicas de la nécora gallega.
- Falsa nécora (Liocarcinus depurator) es más pequeña que la nécora gallega y con patas más largas. Su color es más castaño rojizo.
